Have used this razor since Jan.'08 and it has been performing flawlessly since then. The June '08 issue of a leading Consumer Magazine has just rated this MS2-390 a "Best Buy", second only to the Braun 360 at $170.
After the initial 2 or 3 charge/discharge cycles to improve battery memory, it provides me with over 20 three minute shaves every morning, which more than lives up to the advertised 60 minute run time. This will vary, depending how you choose to keep this unit charged. I run it down completely and use the cord to finish up if the batteries run out before I finish. Then recharge it for 24 hours for the next cycle. The red low charge light will come on about half way through and the speed will slow down perceptively during the last half of the cycle, but will still shave until batteries are fully discharged. If you use the quick charge feature, at least once a year fully discharge and then recharge 24 hours to prolong battery life. Be sure to brush the cutters and blow off the screens after every shave.(I do not recommend using water to flush out razor cutters.) Do not expect too much from the trimmer except to get the occasional whisker that escapes the daily shave or to trim the sideburns. It is too bulky to be of any further use. After all, this is a razor to shave whiskers with and not for haircuts and trims. This Remington should provide many years of use as did my previous one. Even after the batteries are fully depleted, this razor will still work via the plug-in cord.
***** REVIEW UPDATE, April 16, 2011: I have just placed my order for another Remington MS2-390 Shaver to replace the one purchased in January, 2008. After a little over three years of daily service, the switch has broken and must be held in to keep the razor running. This has been the only mechanical problem so far, other than the battery run time has been declining over the past year or so, but that is to be expected with this type of rechargable battery. I have only replaced the screens once, about a year ago, and really probably did not absolutely need to do so at that time.
Why am I buying another of the same model ? 1. It has given me very good service every day, over the past 40 months and at a cost of $60.00 still comes out to be a fairly good buy. (about $1.50 per month). The second reason: When I purchased the first model at Amazon.com in 2008, I also bought an extra set of replacement screens and cutters at the same time. Let's hope the new one lasts long enough to actually need them. R. E. W.
> > > > April 20, 2011 : Upon reading my Review Update of 4/16, it appears that the switch became inoperative due to a defect, when in fact it was the rubber cover over the switch that deteriorated and was about to fall off. In an attempt to repair it, I put a drop of Duco cement in between the switch and the rubber. After I did that is when the switch had to be held IN to work. Apparently I messed up the latching part of the switch mechanism by inserting the glue. My fault and it should be noted that the razor itself is still in perfect mechanical working order except for the switch. Sorry if I mis-led. R. E. W.
